Ingredients Required
- Fresh Carrot – 1 Piece
- Water – for steaming
Equipment Required
- Food Steamer
- Blender
- Vegetable Peeler
- Fork/ Knife
Method for Preparation
- Thoroughly wash the carrot under running tap water.
- Peel the carrot and cut it into thin slices.
- Add the right amount of water into the steamer pot (water level should be around 1-2 inches below the steamer basket).
- Bring the water to boil.
- Add the carrot slices into the steamer basket.
- Cover the steamer with the lid.
- Allow the carrot to steam for about 10-15 minutes.
- Using the fork/ knife, check if the carrot slices are cooked well.
- Remove the carrot slices from the steamer and allow them to cool down completely.
- Blend the carrot slices into a fine paste.
- Add more water (preferably boiled) till you reach a thin, smooth consistency.

- You can also use a pressure cooker to cook the carrot. However, boiling leads to the loss of water-soluble vitamins – Vitamin B and Vitamin C – which are present in small amounts in carrots. Steaming helps preserve all the nutrients within the cooked carrots.
- Carrots contain nitrates which a younger baby’s (baby less than 6 months old) immature stomach is not able to destroy. Add carrots to her diet once she turns at least 6 months old.
