Tummy time is a great exercise for newborns and infants. It strengthens their neck, back and core muscles, promotes head control, and helps with tummy issues. But sadly, not every baby likes to have tummy time sessions.

I am one of those few parents whose baby turns out to be a tummy time hater. When I was going through this problem, I learnt that I can use toys to engage him while he’s lying on his tummy. After a bit of research, I came across Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge that instantly caught my attention. it’s a 4-piece baby musical toy that helps in making tummy time fun for little ones.

Here’s my take on the Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge.

About Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge

The product consists of a Tummy Wedge, a Soft Piano, and 2 Baby Rattles, including a Tambourine Clacker and a BPA-Free Teether. The Piano and the Rattles are available as attachments for the Tummy Wedge.

  • The wedge is about 16 inches wide and has a rectangular shape. it is filled with 100% polyester fiber. It is neither too soft nor too firm for the baby.
  • The piano is about 8 inches wide. It has a plastic back. The front of the piano (including the keys) is slightly cushioned and covered with a soft fabric on which the piano graphic has been made. The graphic shows black and white piano keys, music symbols, and animal faces in vibrant colours. The piano responds to baby’s touch through sounds and lights.
  • The clacker looks like the tambourine musical instrument and produces a click-clack sound, which is very mild.
  • The teether is very basic and doesn’t produce any sound at all.

The entire product is very colourful and is bright enough to catch the attention of the baby.

What’s good about Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge?

  1. Piano and the rattles are detachable – can be used as standalone toys.
  2. Piano has a soft fabric cushioning in front
    1. The baby won’t get hurt if she couldn’t support her neck and pushes her head onto the piano.
    2. Baby’s delicate gums won’t feel much pressure if she decides to take a few bites of the piano.
  3. Piano is not very heavy and has a carrying handle – babies can carry it easily once they start sitting or walking.
  4. 3 different musical modes to entertain the baby – classic piano notes, animal sounds, and a 10-minutes non-stop baby rhymes music.
  5. Animal graphics and sounds aids in brain development and promote early learning.
  6. Wedge is machine washable and Piano is surface washable – good for maintaining hygiene.
  7. Reasonably priced (Available for $29.99).

What’s bad about Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge?

I have 2 perspectives.

  1. If the piano is being used as a tummy time toy: Lights in green and blue tones are quite bright for the little eyes to look up at from such a little distance.
  2. If the piano is NOT being used as a tummy time toy: Sound levels could have been more loud. The piano music is not audible if there’s another source of sound nearby, such as television.

What’s my experience with Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge?

The wedge didn’t come out to be useful as I never really put my son on the floor for tummy time sessions. The piano, though, has played a significant role in turning him into a tummy time lover.

Since I did not use the wedge much, I use the rattles as standalone toys. He likes to play with the tambourine clacker. I put the attachment ring in his wrist whenever I carry him in my lap. This prevents the clacker from falling if he leaves it all of a sudden. As for the teether, he has other preferences, including Sophie la Girafe and Dr. Brown’s Learning Loop Teether.

Final Take

It’s not common that you spot a piano with a cushioned fabric-based front. Fisher-Price Mini Musicians Piano Wedge is a 4-in-1 product that every parent struggling with their baby’s tummy time should try. Apart from getting her entertained, the product helps in developing her gross motor skills, sensory skills, and learning through cause and effect.
