Baby Food Recipes: How to Make Apple Puree for Babies

Sangeeta Ghera July 10, 2020

Apple is a great option to include in your baby’s diet when she starts taking solids. In fact, many parents choose to give their babies homemade apple puree as baby’s first solid food. Apples are highly nutritious. They are rich in Vitamins (Vitamin C), Minerals (Potassium) and Dietary Fibers. They help regulate bowel movements and keeps stomach issues, such as constipation and diarrhea, at bay.

If your little one is turning 6 (months), it’s best to introduce apple to her as a single ingredient, preferably in form of stew or puree.

  13. Add water (boiled or leftover cooking water from apple) till you reach a thin, smooth consistency.

Additional Notes

  1. The apple puree recipe as described in this post is recommended for 6 months old babies. The puree will have a thin, smooth (non-granulated) consistency, which will be easier for the baby to swallow.
  2. You can also use a pressure cooker to cook the apple. However, boiling leads to the loss of water-soluble vitamins – Vitamin B and C – which are present in apples. Steaming helps preserve all the nutrients within the cooked apples.
  3. You can also use breast milk or formula to thin out the puree.
