Product Review: Nuvita Baby Hair Brush & Comb

Babies have a very delicate scalp. Just like other parts of their body, it requires extra attention, extra care. Giving an oil massage is one way to keep the scalp healthy and nourished. Using the right comb, is another. Initially when the babies have very fine hair, it’s always better to comb them with the help of a brush. Combs come handy to treat the Cradle Cap (crusty yellow/ brown patches on the scalp) that some babies develop over time.

Baby brushes are available in two varieties: natural and synthetic. The natural brushes have bristles made up of goat hair or natural wool. They are more soft and gentle on the scalp of the baby than the synthetic brushes.

Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb [set] is a natural baby hair styling product which I personally bought for my little one. Here’s my take on the Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb.

Note: Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb comes as a set in Nuvita’s Baby Hair Styling Kit. I have an older version of this kit in pink colour. This review will be based on that. Nuvita has launched a new version which is available in 6 different colours. The new version seems to have an ergonomic handle with a more comfortable grip.

About Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb

The kit consists of 1 hair brush and 1 comb. Since it is a baby product, the brush and the comb are comparatively smaller in size. The bristles of the hair brush are made from natural soft wool, as stated on Nuvita’s website. They are dense, soft, and gentle on the baby’s scalp. The comb, on the other hand, has firm teeth made up of plastic. Each alternative tooth has a rounded tip to prevent any scratches on the scalp.

What’s good about Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb?

  1. The soft texture of the wool – good for baby’s fine hair.
  2. Use of natural product – good for sensitive scalps.
  3. Bristle density is good.
  4. No foul smell from the bristles.
  5. Moderately priced (I bought the old version for INR 549).

What’s bad about Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb?

  1. The comb. Despite of having rounded tips, the comb’s teeth feels very sharp. Not ideal for a baby.
  2. The handles of the brush and comb are not much comfortable to hold.

What’s my experience with Nuvita Baby Hair Brush and Comb?

The brush, as expected from any natural brush, shred some bristles as soon as I opened the kit. But after a wash, the shredding minimized to a great extent. The brush was gentle on my baby’s scalp. He enjoyed his new grooming accessory.

As far as removing the cradle cap is concerned, the brush was way too soft to treat any cradle cap and the comb was way to sharp to be used on a baby’s tender scalp. I decided not to use the comb, not even for myself.

Final Take

Natural brushes are a better alternative to the classic synthetic brushes; they keep the baby’s scalp irritant-free. But they do come with a higher price tag. If price is not an issue for you, there’s no harm trying one for your baby.
