#1: Bananas are inexpensive

Bananas make a great choice when it comes to having affordable, ‘budget’ fruits. They are low in cost and can be bought from street hawkers or local mandis (wholesale fruit markets).

#2: Bananas are available fresh all year round

Bananas are grown and harvested during all the seasons and are readily available in stores all year round.

Did You Know?

India tops the list of world’s largest banana producers. Bananas are harvested in high quantities (a lot of fruits per plant) and the cost involved in collecting, storing and transporting the bananas is much less as compared to other fruits – making them an incredibly cheap fruit!

#3: Bananas don’t need to be refrigerated

Bananas grow in warm environment and are unused to cold. They ripen naturally. Refrigeration can cause potential damage to the fruit and result in loss of its nutritional value.

#4: Bananas are easy to carry

Bananas are one of the ‘easiest to carry’ fruits. You don’t need to cut them, crack them, or de-seed them, before eating. They don’t even require washing, so you can have them as your on-the-go meal option.

#5: Bananas are easy to eat

You don’t require a spoon or fork to eat bananas. Just remove the banana peel and start taking bites!

Did You Know?

Serving food on Banana leaves is considered healthy, hygienic and auspicious in most of the Southern India. When served, the food is believed to get enriched with several nutrients (such as natural anti-oxidants) present inside the banana leaves.

#6: Bananas make super convenient baby food

When it comes to having convenient food options for babies, bananas make a great choice as they are full of nutrition and (almost) ready to eat. You can carry them while you’re travelling and feed your little one just by peeling and mashing the fruit.

#7: You can do amazing things with Banana Peel

From soothing the inflammation and itching caused by a mosquito bite or poison ivy to whitening the teeth naturally, to curing headache, to making your leather bag or shoes shine – a banana peel can do amazing things you haven’t even thought off!

Final Take:

According to the National Horticulture Board (Government of India), bananas are India’s second most important fruit crop with an annual production of around 14.2 million tonnes. Bananas are also incredibly healthy and nutritious; however, should you consume them or not depends upon your specific health condition. As a rule of thumb, limit the portion of your banana intake if you are diabetic, you have cough or cold, or you are on a low-carb diet.
